TYPES OF PATERNITY TESTS
INFORMATIVE PATERNITY TEST
Our center enables clients to carry out biological sampling necessary to perform the
paternity test by furnishing them, directly and free of charge, with a paternity test kit.
The kit can be sent directly to the subjects undergoing the test, and they do not need to
come to the laboratory.
The informative test furnishes exclusively a result concerning the genetic compatibility
or incompatibility of the biological samples examined. The result has an informative worth
only, and no legal value inasmuch as the identity of the subjects providing the biological
samples have not been ascertained and the necessary authorization has not been obtained.
LEGAL PATERNITY TEST
To carry out a legal determination of paternity, it is obligatory to identify the subjects
who undergo the test and to obtain the necessary authorization by having the parties fill
in a form provided by our center. In the case of minor children, the legal guardian must
provide explicit authorization to carry out the test. Also, in the case of minor children,
it is not possible to conduct the test without the knowledge of both parents. These
procedures are necessary, on the one hand, to verify that the test is actually carried out
on the delcared subjects, and on the other to guarantee the true intention of why the
subject is undergoing the test (not simply to undergo a clinical examination). The
consensus to undergo the tests must therefore be understood as a responsible intention to
carry out the verification.
If the parties involved are incompatible, it is possible to carry out the sampling at
different times and in different places, as long as both parents have given their informed
consent conduct the procedure.
A detailed technical report will be consigned when the
analysis is completed, including chromatograms and statistical analyses of the results.
The report can be utilized in court procedures, for acts of acknowledgment/disownment of
paternity.
