The Laboratory is organized into 9 main sections:
- Molecular Oncology, for the
early diagnosis of tumors and the genetic evaluation of predisposition to tumors;
- Molecular Infectivology, for
the diagnosis of infectious diseases;
- Molecular Genetics, for pre-
and post-natal diagnosis of genetic diseases;
- Prenatal
Diagnosis, for studies on the state of health of the fetus during pregnancy;
- Molecular Cardiology, for the
genetic evaluation of predisposition to the development of cardiovascular pathologies;
- Forensic
Genetics, for paternity testing and other forensic biological studies;
- Molecular Veterinary Studies,
for the determination of animal genetic profiles, certification of pedigrees, detection of
sex in birds;
- Preimplantation
Genetic Diagnosis (PGD), a technique used together with Centers for Assisted
Fertilization to diagnose embryos for mutations associated with genetic diseases;
- Genetic Counseling, for the
management of information regarding sterility, recurrent spontaneous abortion and genetic
risks.
